Bangladesh’s Tamim out of Asia Cup with a fracture

Bangladesh received a serious jolt during the opening match of the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Saturday as their left-handed opening batsman Tamim Iqbal suffered from a wrist fracture.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board said the 29-year-old suffered a fracture on his left wrist after being struck by a short delivery from Sri Lankan paceman Suranga Lakmal in the second over of the match.

Tamim received on-field treatment but his pain did not subside forcing him to leave the field and had an X-ray.

Bangladesh are in group B of the Asia Cup with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Pakistan, holders India and Hong Kong form group A.

Earlier, Tamim had sustained an injury on his right-hand index finger during a fielding drill on August 28 and hadn’t practiced since, and Mominul Haque was flown in as a possible replacement.
